Educational System

This education system was recently introduced in 2007 to align with system been used by most countries of the world through the Bologna process.
The bottom level is the basic education as it is called in most countries, upper secondary or high school level. If you look at the y-axis, it specifies the number of years allocated for each level and in this case it is between 1-3 years. After graduation from this level, students can gain admission to the next level  which is the typical bachelor degree, then Master’s degree and lastly Licentiate and doctorate degrees is the last level.
It is also good to know that Swedish is the official language in Sweden however, there are thousands of courses offered in English which is also the main language of instruction.

Length of courses varies as follow:

Unlike other countries that have several short diploma courses, in Sweden the case is exceptional. Course certificate takes 2-6 months, Bachelor’s Degree 3 years, Masters Degree 1-2 years and PhD 4 years. Please note that this depends on the courses/programme’s requirements.

Work As You Study

It will also be interesting to know that you can work while you study in Sweden which will help you in complementing your study and living expenses. Various works are available for international students on a study visa from part time to short contract jobs. It is also amazing that in Sweden restriction is not on student regarding hours of work during studies as they allow international students to work up to 40 hours in every week during the course session and during the course’s break/holiday. However it is recommended that students on a study resident permit device ways to balance studies and work evenly with no restriction. Majority of international students in Sweden work as newspaper distributors at night or petty cleaning night job for about 2-3 hours to supplement their living expenses.

Educational Cost/Tuition fee

In Sweden Students with foreign nationalities are required to pay tuition fees for their universitie’s studies. Although some scholarships are available for best students from some developing countries depending your situation.

Tuition fees in Sweden depends on the programme/course you have enrolled for but on average, fee for master’s programme is SEK 129,000/year while bachelor programmes are less expensive.
